Is the vinyl record in trouble? Since the recent introduction of the MP3, one might think that vinyl records and CD's both, might be in trouble. You can store close to 1,000 MP3 songs on a single 50 GB hard drive. Not to mention the convenience of the MP3 player as well as cell phones that play the same. The comparison has always been made between vinyl records and the CD, but the MP3 has almost made the CD obsolete. Buy not vinyl!
In my opinion, if you prefer great sound quality over convenience, you might want to look towards a good piece of vinyl. Vinyl records have made a big comeback with the advent of the many online auction sites like: eBay, GEMM, etc... It is said that vinyl records have less distortion during subtle quiet passages than CDs. Also, a good piece of vinyl is said to have a more extended frequency range.
I think all of these formats have their strengths and their weaknesses. I also think it is unfair to make a comparison of the same. Never-the-less, comparisons have been made and vinyl tends to always come out on top. Before I close let me just say: Records were invented in 1888. Music has been recorded on vinyl since 1948. Vinyl records are still around!
